Building AI for Us, By Us - and Building It Responsibly
At the official launch of SabiPT AI, hosted by Dr. Michael Okolie, CEO of NASCI and founder of SabiPT, I had the opportunity to connect with Silvia Gualtieri, MPP for Mississauga East–Cooksville. We spoke about AI, transparency and the importance of clearly communicating when and how AI is being used.
MPP Gualtieri has brought forward Private Members’ Notice of Motion No. 72 in the Ontario Legislative Assembly, which focuses on consumer transparency when AI is used in creating, altering or delivering product representations and advertising.
As a cybersecurity professional, I was particularly interested in the conversation because AI cannot be viewed only through the lens of innovation.
It also brings important conversations around privacy, security, transparency, governance, compliance and trust.
What I appreciated about the SabiPT launch was seeing these considerations treated as important parts of the AI conversation. The questions being asked and the discussions taking place reinforced the importance of developing and using AI thoughtfully and responsibly.
For me, this is where AI, cybersecurity and governance intersect.
We should encourage innovation while ensuring that privacy, security, compliance and transparency remain part of the conversation from the beginning.
And there is something particularly meaningful about seeing AI being developed with our communities in mind.

AI by us.
AI built with responsibility.

This is a step in the right direction toward building technology that reflects our communities, serves our communities and gives our communities a voice in the future of AI.
